  • Kantha in Bengali folk means embroidered quilt. The Kantha stitch comprises of the simplest stitch in the language of embroidery , known as the running stitch. Traditionally the women of Bengal would use the Kantha stitch to join layers of old cloth to make quilts . The embroidery was a means of self expression of the women of Bengal. Today  a wide range of products are made using the Kantha stitch like stoles, bed covers, shawls , sarees etc.
